Why Is Arabic Grammar Essential to Understanding the Quran?

Assalam u alikum!
This is Islamia Institute, and today, We want to discuss something very important: understanding the Quran through Arabic grammar.

Everyone seeks success, but true success lies in the Hereafter. This world is temporary, while the afterlife is eternal. The guidelines for success are in the Quran, yet unfortunately, we have distanced ourselves from it. We recite it, but do we truly understand its message?

Isn’t it sad that the book containing the solutions to all our problems is read without comprehension? Have we ever wondered, what is Allah telling us?

Allah’s Command: Understand the Quran!

Allah says in the Quran:

“Indeed, We have sent it down as an Arabic Quran so that you may understand.” (Surah Yusuf 12:2)

Allah Himself tells us that the Quran was revealed in Arabic so that we can understand it. But the real question is: are we making an effort to understand it?

My Journey: How Arabic Grammar Changed My Life!

I remember when I first realized this. I was reading a translation of the Quran, but something felt missing. I wanted to connect directly with Allah’s words without relying on someone else’s interpretation. That’s when I started learning Arabic grammar, and it completely transformed my relationship with the Quran!

We spend years learning different languages for our careers and education, but we don’t take time to learn the language of the Quran. We seek guidance everywhere, yet the best guidance is already in the Quran.

Think about it! If a book is written in Chinese, can we understand its message? No!
Then how can we understand the Quran if we don’t know Arabic?

The Three Essential Parts of Arabic Grammar

If we want to understand the Quran without translation, we need to know these three fundamental parts of Arabic grammar:

  1. Noun (Ism) – The name of a person, place, or thing
  2. Verb (Fi’l) – Words that describe an action
  3. Preposition (Harf) – Words that connect sentences

When we learn these basic rules, the meaning of the Quran starts becoming clear.
